Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
A rule with no hits over a long counter window is probably obsolete, and an obsolete allow rule widens what the firewall admits.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- In FMC (or cdFMC): Policies > Access Control > edit the policy > Analyze Hit Counts > review zero-hit rules with their owners, then disable or delete them. Deploy.
- In FDM: Policies > Access Control > check the rule's hit count column over a full business cycle, then remove it if nobody needs it.
Command line
This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.
How to confirm the fix
- On the FTD CLI (read only): show access-control-config | include Hits, and compare the counter age with the business cycle.
Limits
- No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
Compliance references
No benchmark recommendation is mapped to this control in this version.
