Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
Telnet, FTP, TFTP, SNMP v1/v2c and the r-services send credentials and data unencrypted, so anyone on the path can read them.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- In FMC (or cdFMC): Policies > Access Control > edit the policy > edit the rule > replace the service with SSH, SFTP, SNMPv3 or HTTPS, or block it. Save, Deploy.
- In FDM: Policies > Access Control > edit the rule > Destination ports, then Deploy.
Command line
This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.
How to confirm the fix
- On the FTD CLI (read only): show running-config access-list CSM_FW_ACL_ | include telnet|ftp, and confirm the line is gone.
Limits
- No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
Compliance references
No benchmark recommendation is mapped to this control in this version.
