Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

A rule that matches everything turns the firewall into a router for all traffic that reaches it, and every rule below it stops mattering.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. In FMC (or cdFMC): Policies > Access Control > edit the policy > edit the rule > narrow Zones, Networks, Ports and Applications to the real need, or delete the rule. Save, Deploy.
  2. In FDM: Policies > Access Control > edit the rule > Source and Destination > set zones, networks and ports, then Deploy.

Command line

This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.

How to confirm the fix

  • On the FTD CLI (read only): show running-config access-list CSM_FW_ACL_ | include ip any any, and confirm the rule's line is gone or narrowed.

Limits

  • No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
