Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

Trust is meant for a narrow, known flow such as a backup stream. With any destination or any port it hands a wide path past every inspection engine.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. In FMC (or cdFMC): Policies > Access Control > edit the policy > edit the rule > restrict networks and ports to the known flow, or change Action to Allow with an intrusion policy. Save, Deploy.
  2. In FDM: Policies > Access Control > edit the rule > Action: Allow and add an intrusion policy, or narrow it, then Deploy.

Command line

This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.

How to confirm the fix

  • On the FTD CLI (read only): show running-config access-list CSM_FW_ACL_ | include trust, and confirm the line is narrowed.

Limits

  • No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
