Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

The default action is the last rule. With Allow, Trust or an intrusion-only default, the policy is a block list rather than an allow list: anything nobody wrote a rule for gets through.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. In FMC (or cdFMC): Policies > Access Control > edit the policy > Default Action (bottom of the rule table) > Access Control: Block All Traffic. Add explicit Allow rules for the flows that need it first, then Save and Deploy.
  2. In FDM: Policies > Access Control > Default Action (bottom row) > Block, then Deploy.

Command line

This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.

How to confirm the fix

  • On the FTD CLI (read only): show access-control-config | include Default Action, and confirm it reads Block.

Limits

  • No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.

Compliance references

No benchmark recommendation is mapped to this control in this version.
