Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

Antivirus signatures are published many times a day. A firewall that installs them late, or downloads them and never installs them, inspects files with signatures that miss what was published since, while the update log reads as current.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. Set the antivirus schedule to download and install, hourly.
  2. Set a threshold if the change process asks for a delay before installing.

Command line

PAN-OS CLI

set deviceconfig system update-schedule anti-virus recurring hourly at <minute> action download-and-install

An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.

Read it back

show deviceconfig system update-schedule anti-virus
Values to fill in1
<minute>
The minute past each hour the update runs

How to confirm the fix

  • Reopen the schedule under Device, Dynamic Updates, and confirm the action and the cadence.
  • Confirm the next scheduled installation appears in the system log.

Limits

  • On a Panorama each template stack is judged on its own, through its members in order; a stack that reaches no schedule, or holds a member this file lacks, is recorded rather than passed. A stack's own settings are not read for update schedules.
