Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
An exception overrides every authorization rule: whatever matches it gets unrestricted access, however the rest of the policy is written.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- In ISE: Policy > Policy Sets > open the policy set > Authorization Policy - Local Exceptions (or Authorization Policy - Global Exceptions) > remove the rule, or move the case into the ordinary authorization policy with a restricted result.
- If the exception must stay, give it a narrow condition and a profile with a downloadable ACL, and record its owner and end date in the rule description.
Command line
This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.
How to confirm the fix
- In ISE: Policy > Policy Sets > open the policy set and confirm the rule's result and condition, then review the Live Logs for sessions that match it.
Limits
- No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
Compliance references
No benchmark recommendation is mapped to this control in this version.
