Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

A MAC address is not a secret: anyone who copies the MAC of a printer or phone this rule admits gets unrestricted network access.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. In ISE: Policy > Policy Sets > open the MAB policy set > Authorization Policy > edit the rule so it assigns a downloadable ACL or VLAN limited to what the device class needs (Policy > Policy Elements > Results > Authorization).
  2. Match on an endpoint identity group or a profiler policy rather than any known MAC, and keep profiled device classes apart.

Command line

This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.

How to confirm the fix

  • In ISE: Policy > Policy Sets > open the policy set and confirm the rule's result and condition, then review the Live Logs for sessions that match it.

Limits

  • No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
