Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

A user or device that matches no intended rule still gets unrestricted network access: the policy fails open.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. First add explicit authorization rules for every population that needs access, so nobody intended falls to the default.
  2. Then in ISE: Policy > Policy Sets > open the policy set > Authorization Policy > Default > set the result to DenyAccess, or to a restricted profile (a quarantine VLAN or a downloadable ACL limited to remediation services).

Command line

This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.

How to confirm the fix

  • In ISE: Policy > Policy Sets > open the policy set and confirm the rule's result and condition, then review the Live Logs for sessions that match it.

Limits

  • No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
