Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
A profile nothing live negotiates with protects nothing and exposes nothing today. It earns a line because the next tunnel built here, or a disabled one turned back on, can select it, and the weak presets PAN-OS ships sit in that list beside the strong ones.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Delete the profile if no tunnel is planned to use it, or replace its algorithms if it is kept.
- If a disabled tunnel uses it and may come back, move that tunnel to a strong profile first.
- If it is kept for a peer that cannot negotiate anything stronger, record which peer, because the next reviewer will ask.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI
delete network ike crypto-profiles ike-crypto-profiles <object-name>An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.
Read it back
show network ike crypto-profiles ike-crypto-profilesValues to fill in1
- <object-name>
- The object's name, as it appears on your firewall
Before you type it1
- A configuration shows definitions and references, not traffic, so review this before you run it.
How to confirm the fix
- Confirm no gateway or tunnel names the profile before deleting it.
- Confirm the commit succeeds, which PAN-OS refuses while anything still references the profile.
Limits
- No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
Compliance references
