TLS service profile permits an obsolete protocol version

Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and SSLv3 have known weaknesses and are rejected by current clients and by PCI DSS. A profile that floors itself below TLS 1.2 offers a downgrade path to anything willing to take it.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Set the minimum protocol version to tls1-2 or higher on this profile.
- Confirm no client that depends on the affected service still requires the older version.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI, standalone firewall, vsys1
set vsys vsys1 ssl-tls-service-profile <object-name> protocol-settings min-version tls1-2set vsys vsys1 ssl-tls-service-profile <object-name> protocol-settings max-version max
An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.
Read it back
show vsys vsys1 ssl-tls-service-profile <object-name>Values to fill in1
- <object-name>
- The object's name, as it appears on your firewall
Before you type it1
- Clients that only offer an older protocol version will stop connecting.
How to confirm the fix
- Negotiate a connection against the service and confirm the older version is refused.
Limits
- A profile that states no minimum version is not reported, because the platform default has changed across PAN-OS releases and a configuration file does not record which default applies.
Compliance references
No benchmark recommendation is mapped to this control in this version.
