Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

An RSA key under 2048 bits or a SHA-1 signature is rejected by current supplicants and browsers, and a forged certificate becomes feasible: an EAP or Admin certificate that cannot be trusted lets a rogue server pose as the ISE.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. In ISE: Administration > System > Certificates > System Certificates: generate a CSR with an RSA key of 2048 bits or more (or an EC key) and a SHA-256 signature, have the CA sign it, bind it and move the uses to it.
  2. Delete the old certificate once nothing uses it.

Command line

This analyzer version writes no command text for this control. The steps above are the remediation it offers.

How to confirm the fix

  • In ISE: Administration > System > Certificates > System Certificates: the certificate that holds the use shows a key of 2048 bits or more and a SHA-256 or stronger signature.

Limits

  • No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
