Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
A profile group in active use covers only part of the ConfigProof Recommended Baseline, so every rule that attaches it inherits the gap. The rules look protected in the interface, and the missing inspection is only visible inside the group.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Add the missing profiles to the group.
- Where a profile type is deliberately excluded, record the decision so the gap is a choice.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI, standalone firewall, vsys1
set vsys vsys1 profile-group <object-name> virus <antivirus-profile>set vsys vsys1 profile-group <object-name> spyware <anti-spyware-profile>set vsys vsys1 profile-group <object-name> vulnerability <vulnerability-profile>
An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.
Read it back
show vsys vsys1 profile-group <object-name>Values to fill in4
- <object-name>
- The object's name, as it appears on your firewall
- <antivirus-profile>
- The antivirus profile to attach
- <anti-spyware-profile>
- The anti-spyware profile to attach
- <vulnerability-profile>
- The vulnerability protection profile to attach
Before you type it1
- Set only the profiles the group is missing. The rest are already there.
How to confirm the fix
- Confirm the relevant subscriptions are active before relying on the added profiles.
- Generate a test session and confirm the threat log shows the new inspection.
Limits
- An organization that handles one inspection type on another device will legitimately have a group without that profile type. The baseline is configurable.
