Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
Outbound web traffic without a URL filtering profile has no category blocking and no credential phishing protection, and it produces no URL log for later investigation.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Attach a URL filtering profile to the outbound rule.
- Block the malware, command-and-control, phishing and newly-registered-domain categories.
- Enable credential phishing prevention where User-ID is available.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI, standalone firewall, vsys1
set vsys vsys1 rulebase security rules <object-name> profile-setting profiles url-filtering <url-filtering-profile>An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.
Read it back
show vsys vsys1 rulebase security rules <object-name>Values to fill in2
- <object-name>
- The object's name, as it appears on your firewall
- <url-filtering-profile>
- The URL filtering profile to attach
Before you type it1
- An inline profile replaces the profile group on that rule. Set the whole set you want, not only the missing one.
How to confirm the fix
- Confirm the destination zone named in this finding really is the internet.
- Test one blocked category and confirm the block page appears.
Limits
- Non-web outbound rules such as SMTP relays do not need URL filtering; only rules that permit web applications or web ports are reported.
