Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
No syslog server is set in the log settings examined, so those logs are not copied to a syslog collector. Unless another destination, such as Panorama or a cloud log service, receives them, they are kept only on the appliance and are lost when the log space fills or the device is rebuilt.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Create a syslog server profile pointing at your collector, over TLS where possible.
- Attach it to system, config and traffic log forwarding.
- Verify events arrive at the collector.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI
set shared log-settings syslog <profile-name> server <server-name> server <server-address>set shared log-settings syslog <profile-name> server <server-name> transport SSLset shared log-settings syslog <profile-name> server <server-name> port 6514
An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.
Read it back
show shared log-settings syslog <profile-name>Values to fill in3
- <profile-name>
- Which profile to change. A firewall carries several of each kind.
- <server-name>
- The server entry's name
- <server-address>
- The server's address
Before you type it1
- A log forwarding profile sends nothing until a rule names it.
How to confirm the fix
- Confirm no Panorama template already supplies log forwarding for this device.
- Generate a test event and confirm it reaches the collector.
Limits
- Log forwarding may be configured in a Panorama template that this file does not contain.

Where a control aligns with a recommendation of the CIS Palo Alto Firewall 11 Benchmark v1.2.0, that recommendation is cited as a reference. Only that version was checked. A reference is not a certification.
