Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
A device group nothing is assigned to pushes to nothing. Rules and objects added to it are reviewed and maintained without reaching any firewall, which is where a policy an operator believes is in force turns out not to be.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Confirm whether devices are meant to be assigned to this device group.
- Assign the devices, or remove the device group.
- Where the group is a staging area, record that in its description.
Command line
Panorama CLI
set device-group <object-name> devices <serial-number>An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits or pushes. Review, commit, then push to your devices yourself.
Read it back
show device-group <object-name> devicesValues to fill in2
- <object-name>
- The object's name, as it appears on your firewall
- <serial-number>
- The serial number of the device to assign
Before you type it1
- The managed devices keep running their current policy until you push.
How to confirm the fix
- Confirm no device is waiting to be onboarded into this device group.
- Confirm the rules it holds are not needed elsewhere before removing it.
Limits
- A device added after the export will not appear.
