Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
Position in a template stack is precedence. A member whose every setting is already claimed contributes nothing to the devices this stack serves, and an operator editing it will see no change on the firewall.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Confirm which template is intended to supply these settings.
- Move the template up the stack, or remove the settings it duplicates.
- Remove the member entirely if it is no longer needed by this stack.
Command line
Panorama CLI
delete template-stack <template-stack> templates <object-name>An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits or pushes. Review, commit, then push to your devices yourself.
Read it back
show template-stack <template-stack>Values to fill in2
- <object-name>
- The object's name, as it appears on your firewall
- <template-stack>
- The template stack
Before you type it2
- The managed devices keep running their current policy until you push.
- A configuration shows definitions and references, not traffic, so review this before you run it.
How to confirm the fix
- Confirm the template is not relied on by another stack where it does take effect.
- Read the affected settings back from one device the stack serves.
Limits
- A defined subset of template settings is compared: banner, timezone, DNS, NTP, update server and domain. Other settings may also conflict.
