Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
PAP sends the password protected only by the RADIUS shared secret, and CHAP needs the server to hold the password in a recoverable form. A tunneled method such as PEAP-MSCHAPv2 or EAP-TTLS protects the exchange with TLS.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Set the profile's authentication protocol to PEAP-MSCHAPv2, PEAP with GTC or EAP-TTLS with PAP, whichever the RADIUS server supports.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI, standalone firewall, vsys1
set vsys vsys1 server-profile radius <object-name> protocol <radius-protocol>An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.
Read it back
show vsys vsys1 server-profile radius <object-name>Values to fill in2
- <object-name>
- The object's name, as it appears on your firewall
- <radius-protocol>
- PEAP-MSCHAPv2, PEAP-with-GTC or EAP-TTLS-with-PAP, whichever your RADIUS server supports
How to confirm the fix
- Test authentication against the RADIUS server after the change.
Limits
- A profile that writes no protocol is recorded as not written.
- Only PAP and CHAP are reported, and only PEAP-MSCHAPv2, PEAP with GTC and EAP-TTLS with PAP pass; any other protocol name is recorded as not known, never as safe.
