QoS is enabled on an interface and no QoS policy rule classifies traffic

Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
With QoS on and no QoS policy, traffic leaves in the default class. The interface reads as shaping and treats the traffic somebody meant to protect like everything else.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Write QoS policy rules for the traffic the interface is meant to prioritize.
- Or turn QoS off on the interface if shaping is not intended.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI, standalone firewall, vsys1
set vsys vsys1 rulebase qos rules <qos-rule-name> action class <qos-class>set vsys vsys1 rulebase qos rules <qos-rule-name> application <application>
An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.
Read it back
show vsys vsys1 rulebase qos rules <qos-rule-name>Values to fill in3
- <qos-rule-name>
- A name for the new QoS rule
- <qos-class>
- The QoS class
- <application>
- The application or applications this rule should match
Before you type it1
- QoS needs a profile with bandwidth in it and an interface that uses the profile. One without the other shapes nothing.
How to confirm the fix
- Confirm the QoS policy lists enabled rules for the intended applications.
- Confirm the interface's QoS statistics show traffic outside the default class.
Limits
- No limitation is recorded for this control beyond the one that applies to all of them: it reads a configuration export.
