Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
When that link loses its path upstream while its port stays up, nothing takes it out of the route, so part of the traffic keeps going to a link that no longer delivers it.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Under Network, SD-WAN, Performance SLAs, add the member to a health check that probes a target beyond the link and updates static routes.
- If the route is exempt (link-monitor-exempt enable), remove the exemption unless the route must stay when every check fails.
Command line
FortiOS CLI
config system sdwanconfig health-checkedit <health-check>set members <member-sequences>set probe-packets enableset update-static-route enablenextendend
An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. FortiOS saves a change when you type next or end, with no separate commit. Read every line first.
Read it back
show system sdwandiagnose sys sdwan health-check
Values to fill in2
- <health-check>
- The SD-WAN health check (Performance SLA) that should probe the member
- <member-sequences>
- The sequence numbers of the SD-WAN members, all of them, as the list replaces the one written
Before you type it4
- Written from the FortiOS CLI Reference, not yet run on a device. Read each line before typing it.
- On a device with VDOMs, type these inside the VDOM (config vdom, edit the VDOM) or inside config global for a global setting.
- set members replaces the list: name every member the check should probe, the ones it already probes included.
- The check also needs a probe target beyond the link (server) and, on FortiOS 7.0 and later, detect-mode active.
How to confirm the fix
- On the FortiGate (read only): diagnose sys sdwan health-check, and confirm each member of the zone has a state from a check.
Limits
- A link monitor or BFD session covering the member leaves the route unjudged rather than passed.
- Only IPv4 static routes into a zone are read.
