Reads the export, not the device

ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.

Why it matters

An SD-WAN rule chooses among SD-WAN links. With none switched on it steers nothing, so the traffic it was written for follows the routing table without the path quality checks the rule promises.

How to fix it

Web interface

The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.

  1. Switch the SD-WAN link on (Network, Interfaces, the interface, SD-WAN tab) on the interfaces the rule should use, or remove the rule. Commit.

Command line

PAN-OS CLI

set network interface ethernet <interface> layer3 sdwan-link-settings enable yes

An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.

Read it back

show network interface ethernet <interface> layer3 sdwan-link-settings
Values to fill in1
<interface>
The interface to change

How to confirm the fix

  • On the firewall (read only): show sdwan connection all, and confirm the links the rules should use are listed.

Limits

  • The check reads the whole firewall, not one virtual system at a time.
