Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
The minimum version is the lowest a session may negotiate down to. A minimum of SSLv3, TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1 means the configuration permits sessions on versions with published attacks against them, where a modern client would otherwise have negotiated higher.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Set the profile's minimum version to tls1-2.
- Check what the profile is attached to before committing: raising the minimum version stops sessions that negotiate below it, and an old internal appliance is the usual casualty.
- Leave the maximum version alone unless there is a reason to change it: lowering it is what breaks a session.
Command line
PAN-OS CLI, standalone firewall, vsys1
set vsys vsys1 profiles decryption <profile> ssl-protocol-settings min-version tls1-2An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Nothing here commits. Review the candidate configuration, then commit it yourself.

- <profile>
- Which profile to change. A firewall carries several of each kind.
Before you type it1
- Clients that only speak the older versions stop connecting. Find them before you commit.
How to confirm the fix
- Reopen the profile's SSL protocol settings and confirm the minimum version.
- Confirm the applications carried by the rules using this profile still complete after the change.
Limits
- Whether this profile is attached to a gateway or a tunnel is a separate question. A profile defined and never referenced carries no exposure.
