Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
A firewall rule for one group cannot tell its users from the other group's by source address, so every rule written for one applies to both.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- Give each portal or dial-up entry its own address range under VPN, SSL-VPN Portals, or on the dial-up entry's mode configuration, and write the rules against those ranges.
Command line
FortiOS CLI
config vpn ssl web portaledit <portal>set ip-pools <address-pool>nextend
An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. FortiOS saves a change when you type next or end, with no separate commit. Read every line first.
Read it back
show vpn ssl web portal <portal>Values to fill in2
- <portal>
- The name of the SSL VPN portal
- <address-pool>
- The address object holding the range this portal or dial-up hands out, different from every other profile's
Before you type it2
- Written from the FortiOS CLI Reference, not yet run on a device. Read each line before typing it.
- On a device with VDOMs, type these inside the VDOM (config vdom, edit the VDOM) or inside config global for a global setting.
How to confirm the fix
- Connect a user of each group and confirm the two receive addresses from different ranges.
Limits
- A pool named by an address object the file does not hold is compared by name only.
