Reads the export, not the device
ConfigProof reads a configuration export. This control is evaluated against the objects in that file, and it reports what the file says. It does not connect to the device and sees no traffic, so a finding here describes the configuration, not what the firewall is doing right now.
Why it matters
Once a train's vulnerability support ends, Cisco publishes no further security fix for it.
How to fix it
Web interface
The steps below are written for the web interface. A finding raised on your own export carries the same steps with your object names filled in.
- In ASDM: Plan an upgrade to a supported train from Cisco's recommended release; ASDM: Tools > Upgrade Software from Cisco.com.
- On the CLI: copy the new image to disk0:, then boot system disk0:/<image>, write memory and reload in a change window.
Command line
Cisco ASA CLI
configure terminalno boot system disk0:/<old-image>boot system disk0:/<image>endwrite memory
An example. Values in angle brackets are yours to supply; a finding on your own export fills in the names it read. Typed in configuration mode; write memory saves it, with no separate commit. Read every line first.
Read it back
show running-config bootshow version
Values to fill in2
- <old-image>
- The image file the device boots today
- <image>
- The image file of the release to move to
Before you type it3
- Written from the ASA 9.x command reference and not run on a device: read each line before you paste it.
- In multiple context mode, type it in the context it applies to (changeto context <name>).
- Take a configuration backup first and plan a maintenance window: the device restarts during an upgrade. Choose the target release from the vendor's upgrade path for the version in use.
How to confirm the fix
- Run show version after the reload.
Limits
- The recommended release is Cisco's to name; the table records end-of-life notices only.
